A contemporary split-level home with a traditional touch

Today, we are showing you another split-level home design for your inspiration.  Though in our previous posts we have defined what a split-level home is, we will be defining it here again for those who have missed that issue.

A split-level home, which is also called a bi-level or tri-level home has floor levels that are staggered.  The floor levels are divided into two or three levels connected by two sets of short stairs.  Most split-level homes have a basement that houses the garage, a living room or receiving area, an office/work area, laundry area, and storage.

The main level usually contains the living room, dining area, kitchen and a common toilet and bathroom. In some designs, the main level also has one or two bedrooms, however, in most designs, the bedrooms are usually located in the upper level.

In some designs, the basement area is usually unfinished and is mainly used as a garage and a storage or laundry area.

One side of the house looks like a single-storey.  This side does not show where the split is.  The split is often shown on its frontage, on the other side or even on the back side.

This is the back side of the house showing the basement unfinished area which is usually used for utilities and laundry facilities.
